Lainie Lam is a self-taught stained glass and miniatures artist, who currently lives in Holyoke, MA. She isn't the recipient of any awards from any organizations or had exhibitions in any museums or galleries anywhere. Yet, she still feels compelled to make things that are a supreme challenge out of art glass, and any other materials she can get her hands on.
After 25 years in Information Technology, she retired from her role as CTO of her small NYC-based computer consulting firm in 2021 to attend a 10 month Marine Systems program in Arundel, Maine. As part of the program she and a few other classmates were assigned to a sailboat with various systems in need of repair and upgrades. This familiarity with the boat turned into a fondness for sailboats, and later inspired the theme for her miniature stained glass collection, Fathom That. While she gained a true appreciation for the skill and dedication required to be a marine professional, alas, the most valuable lesson was to not purchase a used (or any) boat. And that boatyard workers are grossly underpaid for the amount of knowledge they must command while working under hazardous conditions. Lainie now devotes her life to her husband, daydreaming about her imminent grandson, and trying to make difficult things instead of things difficult.
